Miami Dolphins Academy Hosts Flag Football Clinics for Youth and Coaches in Brazil
Miami Dolphins Academy continues expanding international flag football efforts in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins hosted flag football clinics for youth and coaches in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo from July 27 through August 1. More than 900 local youth and nearly 100 coaches participated in the clinics and demonstrations, learning the fundamentals of the sport in a safe and fun environment.
The annual camps returned to Brazil for the second consecutive year in Rio de Janeiro and the third year in São Paulo as part of the franchise’s international efforts to grow the sport, support local athletes and expand access to flag football. The free, half-day clinics were led by Miami Dolphins Academy coaches and gave participants hands-on experience with the sport, with many being introduced to flag football for the first time.
The coaches clinic kicked off the schedule in Rio de Janeiro on July 27, where nearly 50 coaches received instruction on skill development, teaching methods and resources to help grow the sport within their communities. An additional 40 participants attended the second coaches clinic at Nossa Arena in São Paulo.
The youth clinics welcomed more than 700 Brazilian youth during activities held at Botafogo’s headquarters in General Severiano on July 28 and at Nossa Arena in São Paulo on July 30 and 31. Participants learned the fundamentals of flag football and developed basic techniques to compete in the sport.

Miami Dolphins Academy concluded the week with a flag football festival on Saturday, August 1, at Clube Recreativo CERET in São Paulo, where young athletes put their skills into practice through a series of drills and friendly games.
The clinics also featured special appearances by Dolphins and NFL Flag ambassadors Gabi Bankhardt and Lucas Bonini, former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Durval Queiroz (Duzão) and the team’s mascot, T.D.
“We were thrilled to bring our flag football clinics back to Brazil under our new name, Miami Dolphins Academy, as we continue advancing the international growth of the sport,” said Felipe Formiga, Vice President of International Development for the Miami Dolphins. “It was extremely rewarding to provide youth and coaches in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo with the resources needed to learn the fundamentals of flag football while also developing lifelong leadership and teamwork skills. The engagement we saw throughout the past week was incredible, and we look forward to future opportunities to connect with fans, athletes and coaches across Brazil through the sport.”
The Miami Dolphins Academy clinics are part of the Miami Dolphins’ commitment to the global growth of American football and flag football, providing resources and access to the sport in a safe and fun environment. Brazil is one of six countries in which the Dolphins hold international marketing rights through the NFL Global Markets Program.
